Chow-Chow
The end to summer gardens has long past however, there are a few vegetables that have not ripened but can be used for things like Chow Chow which is a family favorite. I have disappointed family and friends if I do not have green tomatoes in an abundance for the makings of chow chow which the base is green tomatoes. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to share as a hostess gift or use yourself for a flavorful condiment to your Thanksgiving Dinner.
To give a Thanksgiving Basket to your hostess, give your basket pretty fall look by tucking a jar of relish in a basket lined with a fall colored shredded material and trimmed with autumn leaves. Leaf-shaped tags makes a nice finishing touch with the recipe attached.

- 1 gallon Green Tomatoes chopped, bite size
- 1 quart Onion chopped, bite size
- 1 quart Cabbage chopped
- 1/2 cup Green or Red Bell Peppers chopped
- 1/2 cup Jalapeno Peppers (optional)
- 3 cups sugar
- 4 cups White Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper

- Put all the ingredients in a large container and bring to a boil. Boil the ingredients until it changes color which about 15 minutes.
- While the ingredients are boiling, get your canning jars ready. They should already be clean, sterilized, and ready for filling. Get your work area ready.
- Fill your jars with the hot ingredients and seal the jars. Place the jars in you hot water canning bath for 15 minutes (make sure the 15 minutes is with a full rolling boil).
